Description
The autobiographical graphic novel "Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic" by Alison Bechdel illustrates the struggles in communication within a family, particularly between the two main characters: teenage daughter Alison and her closeted Father Bruce. Literature acts as their only means of mediation. It helps them to express their identities by exchanging books and communicate their feeling metaphorically.
Many families in Schwamendingen share the same struggles. Drawing inspiration from Alison’s and Bruce’s story, we identified the spaces, already serving as dynamic environments, fostering spontaneous conversations outside of the domestic. The OJA is a social facility, offering space to teenagers beyond the pressures of domestic life. We aim to enhance these existing mediation spaces to bridge the gap between teens aged 10 to 15 and their parents.
In the end, the project serves as a catalyst, enabling the community to forge genuine connections and express their identities in a supportive and inclusive setting.
