The project is located on a steep
southern slope above the church
of Sankt Gerold in the Great
Walser Valley. The project take the
advantage of the site to have two
entrance on both sides.
Apart from the foundation slab and
supporting wall, the four-storey
building is made entirely of timbe.1
The lift core was made
ofcross-laminated timber, which
was built rst in the construction
process.
The dowel laminated timber
elements of the storey
slabs mount into the
prefabricated wall's slits

The main beams lie in the two
interior walls next to the lift.

Dowel laminated timber storey slabs
slits in the wall elements.
It could be reassembled or reused.
There are three layers of the
structure from facade to slab (from
exterior to interior):
1. Exterior wall panels with an
insulating layer; 2. Window frame;
3. slab support and other support
structure.
The exterior wall takes the load of the
whole building.
Dowel laminated timber
Advantage:
Greater structural e ciency for one-
way spans than CLT;
cheaper than CLT;
With no nails or metal fasteners,
DowelLam panels can be easily
processed using CNC machinery and
allow on site modi cations
Disadvantage:
Over time, hardwood fasteners or
dowels lose their sti ness causing
dimensional instability.
Substructure, battens, spruce, painted
black 30/50 mm
Interior cladding, silver r, Tongue-
and-groove 20/50 –120 mm
*This joint is likely to bend and break
since it carried the load of the timber
slab to the timber beam and window.
Prefabricated element: cladding,
spruce, tongue-and-groove, diagonal
25/80 –150 mm
The exterior wallsa and cross
laminated timber pael lift brace the
buildings as a whole.
The dowel laminated timber slabs do
not have to be rigid plates
